Giving Back – Relay for Life

This spring, our team was part of the Relay for Life of Gwinnett County.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event. Communities form teams and take turns walking a track from the afternoon into the night. The day opens with a lap for survivors and closes with a luminaria ceremony for those who have been lost, and the money raised goes toward cancer research, patient programs, and support for families.
Gwinnett’s is one of the country’s largest and longest-running. Since it began in 1994, it has raised tens of millions of dollars for the American Cancer Society, and the event brings survivors, families, and neighbors together from across the county.
Why We Showed Up.
This past year was a hard one for our team. We lost those close to us, and grief has a way of putting the rest in perspective. Work is good, but the hours we get with the people we love are better.
Relay for Life Gwinnett is one of the causes we back. Our team designed and filled two hundred bags by hand for the survivors walking the opening lap, and made a gift to the American Cancer Society. We did it together, and in a year like this one, standing alongside people facing cancer was something we all needed as much as wanted.
To everyone who came out this April, who walked, who remembered, who gave, thank you.
